What horsemanship means here
Horsemanship is the whole skill of working with horses, of which riding is one part. At Circle Lake Ranch students learn safety on the ground and mounted, how to read a horse's behaviour, grooming and horse care, tack and equipment, and riding skills that build progressively. Both English and Western traditions are taught, and students are always told why something is done — not only how.
How Our Teaching Is Structured
Horsemanship, not just riding
Riding is one part of working with a horse. Handling, grooming, tack and horse knowledge are taught alongside time in the saddle.
Safety is taught explicitly
Ground safety and mounted safety are part of the curriculum from the first lesson, not warnings added at the end.
Understand the horse first
Students learn to read behaviour and body language before being asked to control a horse at speed.
Progressive development
Each skill builds on the one before it, and riders move forward when they are ready rather than on a fixed timetable.
English and Western traditions
Circle Lake Ranch teaches both, so riders see two approaches with a shared foundation of balance, quiet hands and good judgement.
Respect, compassion and learning why
The horse's comfort comes first, and students are always told the reason behind the rule so good habits hold up on their own.
