Where can my child take horseback riding lessons in Katy, Texas?
Circle Lake Ranch teaches weekly horseback riding lessons at 1134 FM 1463 in Katy, Texas, about half a mile from Interstate 10. Riders ages 6 and up at every level ride once a week in a small group at the same day and time, in a one-hour slot with 50 minutes of instruction, for $280 per month. No previous horse experience is needed. New riders complete the registration form and Circle Lake Ranch places them in a suitable class.
The program runs year-round and teaches complete horsemanship — grooming, tacking, safe handling and horse care — alongside riding in English or Western tack. For the long-term soundness of our lesson horses, we do not jump. Our regular program is group-based; if a student needs additional one-on-one help, we do our best to accommodate individual needs within the program. Families ride with us from across Katy, including Cinco Ranch and Cross Creek Ranch, plus Fulshear, Richmond, Brookshire, Cypress and west Houston. Riders wanting more saddle time can look at our horse lease options, and kids ages 6-12 can join our summer horse camp when registration opens.

Teaching Horsemanship in Katy Since 1998
Circle Lake Ranch has taught horseback riding in Katy, Texas since 1998 — nearly three decades, and approximately 3,900 regular lesson students over that time. That figure is an owner-derived historical estimate across the life of the program, not a deduplicated count.
What has stayed constant is the curriculum. Students work through a structured horsemanship program: safety education on the ground and mounted, horse knowledge and behaviour, grooming and tack, and mounted riding skills that build progressively as each rider is ready. Both English and Western riding are taught here today.
Layne developed Circle Lake Ranch's horsemanship curriculum and spent years teaching and training riders herself. Today she oversees the riding-lesson program, and the same teaching structure she built continues to shape how students learn.
Circle Lake Ranch also has a long history of developing riders for competition in both English and Western disciplines.

Our instructors work with riders of all abilities, from first-timers to experienced equestrians.
For their longevity, we do not jump our lesson horses.

Advanced
Refine your skills with advanced techniques and possibly lease a horse to upgrade your skills and have more time to enjoy the joy of horses.
Safety Requirements
Your safety and the safety of our horses is our top priority. Please review these important guidelines.
Small children & siblings must sit quietly near their parents or guardian. Crouching on the ground, running, squealing or throwing things can frighten horses.
No smoking or vaping on premises; hay burns quickly and barn fires are devastating.
Touching, petting and feeding horses is dangerous because horses have powerful teeth. Please do only under your instructor's supervision and do not pet privately owned horses without permission.
If you are behind a horse, please remain 10 feet back in case the horse decides to kick out his back legs. Stay at least 4 feet from the side of the horse unless you are a student.
Dogs are not allowed in the barn or to be walked on the road where lessons take place. Horses may mistake them for predators and become frightened.
Things that can frighten a horse include: camera flashes, umbrellas, bicycles, ball throwing, loud noises, walkers and wheelchairs.
Please follow directions or requests given by the staff members.
Our Policies
Please familiarize yourself with our lesson policies before registering.
No one is allowed to ride a horse without providing Circle Lake Ranch Inc. with a fully completed liability waiver form.
Class duration is 50 minutes long, class officially starts 10 minutes after the hour.
Students grounded for disciplinary reasons must pay for the month even though they do not attend class.
We require students enrolled in the fall to ride through the month of December. The horses need to be cared for through the holidays.
Lesson cancellations must occur via email to office@circlelakeranch.com. We require a 30-day notice from the beginning of the month. For example, if you are in class in April, quit by April 1st to be out of classes by May 1st. We do not pro-rate the cancellation.
Makeup lessons may not be taken unless you are in an actively paid month. If you quit on May 1st, you may not continue to take makeup classes into May—those are forfeited.
No makeup classes are given for a class missed or cancelled by us in a 5-week month (since we don't charge extra for it).
Makeup lessons must be taken within 30 days. To qualify, we need 24-hour advance notice that student will not attend.
Makeup lessons booked and missed are forfeited.
